Art in The Square

Posted August 26, 2010

Happy sunny day to you!

Today and tomorrow we’re wrapping up preparations for the Art in The Square festival, which is taking place this Saturday from 10-8 in our neighborhood – Highland Square, Akron Ohio!

Woot!

I love this festival and I love this neighborhood. I love the people who live and work here and the ones who pop in because it’s a fun place to be around. I love the shops, the theatre, the fashion, the spirit of the place, the new school, the community, the restaurants and bars, the diversity in people and opinions.

I love that for 13 out of the past 16 years, I have called the neighborhood home. And now with opening our new studio, Hazel Tree Interiors, I work in Highland Square as well!

Now if we could only get that grocery store we’ll be all set…

Anyways! I’ve been working on putting the festival together for many months now with some really great and giving folks who love The Square as much as I do. We’ve really got a wonderful event planned for Saturday, folks, and I hope you can make it down that day to join in the fun! 6 stages of music thoughout the day, workshops in the library, contests galore, and a super-fun kid’s corner for the little ones. There will be booths by local artists, businesses, non-profits and restaurants. Stop on down and spread some local love!

Here’s a link to the festival website if you’d like to share the info with anyone who might want to come down this Saturday: http://www.ilovethesquare.com

And here’s the facebook page if you’d like to “like” it:

We’ll have regular hours (11-3) at the store Saturday, but Hazel Tree will also have a booth at the festival so make sure you stop and say howdy if you’re there. Three of Hazel Tree’s friends and artisans, John Wilkie, Red and Laura Wack, will be at the booth representin’ with me at different points thoughout the day. Also, there will be artists that currently have pieces at Hazel tree that will have their own booths at the festival so you can see more of the work they do.

Hope to see you there!

Oh, how grand it was!

Hi friends,

As promised, here are some images from the Grand Opening Bash for Hazel Tree Interiors. The evening was a heck of a lot of fun. A whole lot of people came by to celebrate with us and see the new digs that night. Thanks to all who joined us, we appreciate your support!

OK, so this upside-down picture was actually taken this way by my friend Peg…it made us laugh so why change it? That’s the fabulous dress my clothing designer made for me for the evening. Vintage fabric from the early 70′s. Loved it!

You may recall that we were on the Akron ArtWalk that evening. The city arranges for the free city trolley to shuttle people from spot to spot during the ArtWalks. Here’s the trolley pulling up with one of the first loads of people who came to visit us that evening.

The featured artist for the opening of Hazel Tree is Ed Cebula. Here he is standing next to one of his beautiful paintings…it sold on our first day open in July, along with two others of his.

We had food and beverages up on the third floor in Jon’s framing studio, along with live music by Jim Marron. A good time was had by all!

It was a special evening made even more special by the fact that my sister and her family were in town from Texas and could be there with us.

If you haven’t had a chance to stop in the Hazel Tree yet we hope you’ll come down and see us soon!
